About this publication

Welcome to the CD publication for the 4^th International Crop Science Congress. This CD contains the full refereed proceedings from the plenary, symposia and poster sessions from the 4ICSC. It also contains the copyright and citation for the publication, information about the congress and an author index.

The proceedings are freely available online at www.cropscience.org.au.

The papers have been organised by the seven themes for the Congress.

• Theme 3: Crop science for harnessing genetics
• Theme 4: Crop science for addressing water scarcity

• Theme 6: Crop science and Australian agriculture

Papers have been further grouped into sub themes and, in the case of poster papers, sections within sub themes. If you wish to find a particular paper, the Author Index lists all authors from papers presented at the Congress. There are more than 2000 authors listed in this index. Simply click on the author name to go to the paper.

All papers on the CD will print onto a standard A4 page from the HTML documents. However, the larger plenary and symposia papers have also been made available in printable PDF format. Click the icon at the top of the page for the printer friendly version.

Every effort has been made to include all papers being presented at the Congress. However, if you registered as a delegate to the 4ICSC and your paper has been missed from the proceedings or requires corrections it is possible to include it in the Internet publication. Please refer to the website www.cropscience.org.au for instructions on how to upload your paper.

5^th Asian Crop Science Congress

The scientific program for 5ACSC is included in the program of 4ICSC and four of the symposia are joint sessions. The fifth is a specific 5ACSC symposium (theme 5) held on 30 September, with the theme ‘Crop Science for Improving Human Diet in Asia’. This symposium consists of invited talks and sessions of submitted oral presentations under the issues:
Improving the quality of food in Asia
Diversified cropping systems for Asia

Everyone attending the Congress can attend any 5ACSC symposium. Posters related to 5ACSC are identified as such and allocated according to Congress themes. Many other poster papers from member countries are to be found elsewhere in the Congress.

12^th Australian Agronomy Conference

The scientific program for 12AAC is included in the program of 4ICSC and four of the symposia are joint sessions. The sixth is a specific 12AAC symposium (theme 6) held on 30 September, with the theme 'Australian Agriculture - Learning From The Past And Planning For The Future'. This symposium consists of sessions of submitted oral presentations covering the issues:
Pathways to efficient and profitable agriculture
Farming and land stewardship
The benefits and challenges of crop-livestock integration in Australian agriculture
The imperatives for research implementation and delivery in Australia

Everyone attending the Congress can attend any 12AAC symposium. Poster papers from the 12AAC, apart from those upgraded to oral presentation under Theme 6, have been distributed throughout the sessions according to their content and not explicitly acknowledged as 12 AAC contributions.
